Hello there!
My family has traced their history to various localities stretching between Caithness and Aberdeenshire between the 1700s and 1900s, but beyond this not much is known to us. Information was passed down the generations in my family that we were once a sept clan of Gunn, but I'd like to ascertain from when we joined or when the first instances of my family name, Manson, started to appear in records for the main clan.
I'm aware that there are various famly lines that can be traced to Thurso, John o' Groats, in Orkey and even earlier in the Shetlands.
Any details, books or historical records would be of much appreciation to my family and I.
