@Joseph Friend
I am struggling to find the correct parents for my fifth great-grandfather, Joseph Friend. He married down in North Carolina and had several of his children in that area. Then the family migrated up to Kentucky, where four of the children were born, before the family continued on to Illinois where Joseph deceased. There is a Find-A-Grave that provides his year and place of birth and the year and place of his decease. Since the names of his spouse and children have panned out, I have accepted this information. I can't find a record of immigration to prove he was born in Ireland, though.
However, finding his parents is another story. Some in my family (cousins I haven't met) insist we are of the Maryland Friends, citing Israel Frande Friend as either Joseph's father, or someone in his line. I thought I had come across a hot clue. So, I made a shadow tree on Ancestry where my main research takes place, only to discover that of Joseph's eight siblings, he is the ONLY one not born in the Virginia/Maryland area. No, he was born down in North Carlina, according to this hint.
Is this sufficient reason to kick him out of this tree? Or was it merely a slip up on the place of birth? I'm not finding any record to support his birth in any way.
Is there was a real reason to link with any of these families? I don’t think so, so don’t.
