I came here to Geni to cross-check a conflict on Wiki. This Nancy (Vann) Cook is attached to Thomas Vann and Martha Buchanan on Wiki and I have a DNA match on Ancestry with one of her descendants claiming this connection; however, the Nancy (Vann) Williams also on Wiki as the daughter of Thomas Vann and Martha Buchanan is the only one of the two Nancys showing any documentation as their daughter and she's the one who is listed as Nancy D. Vann:

This Nancy (Vann) Cook is listed on Wiki as her half-sister, as are some of the other Vann siblings, and yet they're both connected to the same parents.

They don't appear to be the same Nancy who maybe married twice, because their dates are different. This is the biography on Wiki for Nancy D. (Vann) Williams:

Biography
Nancy was born about 1814. She was the daughter of Thomas Vann and Martha Buchanan. She passed away bef. 1850.

Nancy D. Vann, It is not known where or when Nancy D. Vann was born but she was deceased before 1850. On 13 April 1837, she married George W. Williams. There is a deed from Marthy and Thomas Vann to G. W. Williams, dated 1844, to land in Section 11, Township 6, 2-East, Vienna, Madison, Alabama.

In the Will of Thomas Vann II, it is stated: "I also give and bequeath to Nancy Williamses' Heirs of her body an equal portion of the money. At the settlement of this Estate, the five heirs of Nancy D. Vann Williams received a 1/9th portion which was divided into 5 equal parts.

19 March 1860; Probate Court, Jackson County, Alabama. George Williams was appointed Guardian of the following (his children); Samuel G. Williams, minor; Henrietta T. Williams, Margaret J. Williams, Martha A. Williams, and Mary C. Williams. Nancy Vann Williams, the mother of these children, was the deceased wife of George Williams and the daughter of Thomas Vann II.

As you can see, she's documented in the will of her father Thomas Vann II. There is no such documentation for Nancy (Vann) Cook in his will.

I'm sure Nancy (Vann) Cook is somehow related to these Vanns but doesn't seem to be the daughter of Thomas Vann II and Martha Buchanan. I surely would love to find who her actual parents were since I have a DNA match to a descendant of hers who has this same connection in their tree, maybe copied from here on Geni.

Thanks in advance for any additional information on Nancy (Vann) Cook, but I believe she should be disconnected from Thomas Vann II and Martha Buchanan as her parents, given the evidence that she seems to have been confused with their daughter Nancy (Vann) Williams who is documented in the will.

I did some Googling, trying to find info on Nancy Vann and William Cook. So far all I've found is more evidence that Thomas Vann II's daughter nancy married George W. Williams:

https://dickdfox.tripod.com/index-vanngen6_8.html

86. Nancy D.6 Vann (Thomas5, Thomas4, John3, William2, John1) died Bef 1850. She married George W. Williams 13 April 1837.

Children of Nancy Vann and George Williams are: 241 i. Margaret J.7 Williams, born Abt 1838 in Al. She married John Tipton Bef 1860. 242 ii. Martha A. Williams, born Abt 1840. She married Calvin McCutchen 29 January 1857 in Jackson Co., Al. 243 iii. Samuel G. Williams, born Abt 1842. 244 iv. Mary Williams, born Abt 1846. 245 v. Henrietta T. Williams, born Abt 1849.

Unfortunately, that last link shared doesn't have any info that I could find on Nancy Vann who married a Cook.

I found this site that has the gravestone of Nancy (Vann) Cook:

https://georgiagenealogy.org/wilkinson/cookcemetery.html

Nancy Vann Cook
b. 1821 d. 19 JUL 1896
(wife of William Marion Cook)

So I'll add that to this profile and correct her birthdate

Also, I forgot to mention that this Nancy is showing born and died in Georgia. That's a big difference to note, as the branch of Thomas Vann II were mostly located in Madison County, Alabama once he migrated from North Carolina. Neither Thomas II or his wife Martha Buchanan were in Georgia. So the geography is wrong for her to be from that branch of the Vann family.

I just discovered something odd on Wiki. This Nancy's profile shows:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vann-672

Nancy Vann
Born about 1821 [location unknown]
ANCESTORS ancestors
Daughter of Thomas Vann and Martha (Buchanan) Vann
Sister of Dempsey Vann [half], Jesse Calvin Vann [half], Lucretia (Vann) Buford [half], Thomas Vann III [half], Azariah Vann [half], Sarah Buchanan (Vann) Grayson [half], Nancy D. (Vann) Williams [half], Martha A. (Vann) Drake [half], Mary Ann (Vann) Ikard [half] and Caroline A. E. (Vann) Harris [half]
Wife of William Marion Cook

which has her connected to the wrong parents. BUT if you actually click on her father Thomas, it goes to a different Thomas than the one who married Martha Buchanan:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vann-720

Thomas Vann
Born about 1787 in Virginia, United States
Son of William Vann Sr and Lydia Hamilton
[sibling(s) unknown]
Husband of Harriet Lee — married [date unknown] [location unknown]
DESCENDANTS descendants
Father of Nancy Vann

Those connections may be her correct ones. I wasn't able to find anything Googling Nancy or her grandparents William Vann and Lydia Hamilton or her parents Thomas Vann and Harriet Lee. But the conflicting sets of parents connected to this Nancy on Wiki further indicate confusion on her connections. I leave it to her descendants / profile managers to research the Thomas and Harriet and that Thomas' parents William and Lydia and hopefully be able to fix her connections here on Geni. Meanwhile, I'm going to connect Thomas and Harriet as her parents in my Ancestry tree just to see if that generates any documentation for those connections.
