Lawrence B. Schmidt

“Lanny”

1/23/1937 - 10/13/2023

Lawrence, affectionately called “Lanny” by family, age 86 of Muskego, WI, was born to eternal life on October 13, 2023. He was a loving husband to Carole for almost 61 years (Married October 27, 1962), wonderful father to Nancy (Ed) Horwath and the late Daniel Schmidt. Playful grandaddy to Rebecca Reynolds, Rachel Horwath, Joseph Schmidt and Andrew Schmidt.

Lanny is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Zahn, Alan (Janice) Schmidt, Michael (Sandra) Schmidt, David Schmidt, his sister-in-law Marsha Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents Lambert and Helen Schmidt, in laws Charles and Mildred Persinger, sister Kathleen Schmidt, brother-in-law Richard Zahn, brother-in-law Joe Jeff Davis.

Lanny was a much-loved Husband, Dad, Grandaddy, Brother, Godfather, Uncle, Coach, Friend who was described as kind, loving, playful and generous with a wonderful sense of humor.

Lanny and Carole moved to Muskego in 1963 on their first wedding anniversary and have been residents ever since. Lanny was the proud owner of Schmidt’s Apple Orchard in Muskego for 40+ years before it became Fireside Orchard Subdivision. Lanny and Carole enjoyed attending their children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events, bowling at The Mather Lanes, card club and snowmobiling with the neighbors. Lanny also enjoyed deer hunting up north with family each fall.

Lanny graduated from Pius High School and worked at Kearney & Trecker for 35+ years as a journeyman machinist, then in sales. Lanny coached baseball in the Muskego Athletic Association and volunteered at St. Joe’s Big Bend for many years in the 1970s-80s.

Services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at ST. JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY CHURCH, S89 W22650 Milwaukee Ave. Big Bend. Visitation from 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM, Mass of Christian Burial at Noon with luncheon to follow. Private Family Burial at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Bend to be held at a later date.

Lanny’s family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Senior Living in Muskego and Brighton Hospice for taking such wonderful care of him during the last year.
