According to the late Major William Bruce Armstrong, Sir Edward Bruce of Blairhall married a lady named Alison Reid, said by him to have been the: “daughter of John Reid of Aikenhead, and sister of Robert Reid, Bishop of Orkney.”

By way of proof, but without explanation, Major Armstrong cited The Peerage of Scotland by Robert Douglas. This contradicts him in part, because it identifies Alison Reid as the: “daughter of William Reid of Aikenhead, Esq., in vicecomitatu de Clackmannan, and sister of Robert Reid, Bishop of Orkney.” Neither Douglas or Armstrong cite evidence for the name of the wife of Sir Edward Bruce of Blairhall, and their respective claims are not supported by the surviving records, four of which are cited in her profile overview.
