Greetings,

I work for Geni and we were contacted by a close relative to this family, who believes two family lines may have been mixed up here. This profile for Mendel Dawid (Trzmil) Samuel may by the focal point of the mixup -- I see he was originally added by Barry Michael Graham as Davis Tershmiel, with wife Millie and children Marie Samuels, Belle Samuels, Hilda Samuels, and 2 others. Other Tershmiel / Trzmil relatives were added by Private User.

This relative (on the Samuel side) believes "Mendel Samuel" is correct but has no knowledge of Tershmiel or Trzmil in relation to this man. Does anyone have sources to suggest that the person originally entered as Davis Tershmiel is the same person as Mendel Samuel? If not, we may need to split the Samuel and Tershmiel families until such evidence can be found.

Kind regards,

Mike at Geni

Alek Josefowicz Are you able to assist with this?

Hi Mike and Leanne,

My granduncle Mendel Dawid Trzmil (there are a few variants of this name in the family) emigrated from Kutno to London UK. There, he changed his name to Davis Samuel. This is formally recorded in "Naturalisation Certificate: Mendel Drawid Trzmil. From Poland. Resident in London. Certificate BNA6451 issued 29 August 1949. Note(s): Alias: Davis Samuel"
The family name "Samuel" also has a variant "Samuels" for his descendants.

It would be good if you could share the name of this "close relative to this family" as maybe, this is only a claim.

Please, do not modify any records in the family without first contacting the principal managers: Barbara Rubinstein, Barry Graham, Arlene Beare and me.

Best,
Alek

I know that Mendel Davis Tershmiel did change his last name to Samuel. Davis's sister was my great grandmother Mindel and I know that here maiden name was Tershmiel so Tershmiel is definitely correct. II also know that Davis changed his surname to Samuel, since I have met some of his descendants from his daughter Hilda (I met her husband Ray in Florida after he had remarried). So I know that Tershmiel did become Samuel.

In my tree (from before Geni), his father Abram was married to Dwora. In Geni it shows him as being married to Majte and that his mother was Dveire. This does seem wrong and this is not how I would have entered it.

So, if there is only one Mendel Samuel, then yes he is definitely Davis Tershmiel otherwise I would never have met him since I wouldn't have had a way to connect with him other than him being my great grandmother Mindel Tershmiel's brother. If this Samuel relative thinks there may be another Mendel Samuel that was never a Tershmiel, but he had five children were Belle, Dot, Hilda, Nat and Marie and his wife was Millie, then they are mistaken. Their Samuel last name was definitely changed from Tershmiel/Trzmil.

Thank you both for your replies.. I'll loop back to the person who contacted us.

Alek Josefowicz would you be able to upload a copy of the Naturalisation Certificate to this profile?

Mike,

Here is the direct reference: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C11914005
But more importantly: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C1407...
indicates that the record remain closed for 100 years from the listed date, which means at least until 2049.

By the way, I have not seen any certificates, birth, marriage, etc., being even referenced in any of the Geni profiles.

Alek

Thanks Alek, very illuminating.

I have not seen any certificates, birth, marriage, etc., being even referenced in any of the Geni profiles.

Like, AT ALL? Or just with regards to this family. We try to encourage users to use the Sources tab on profiles, and we've put a lot of work into making the matches to MyHeritage easy to use and automatically create source citations (though it does require a subscription to MyHeritage records, it's free on Geni).

I have added a screen shot as both a photo and a document to the profile - with a link to the page

I would like to know how close this "close relative" is to the Terszmil family. Is this a true relative (a cousin or a descendant) or a person connected through marriages? I do not need to know the name.
