Thomas Bruce, the husband of Janet Scobie, was a flesher and brewer in Coupar Angus. He was the son of Patrick Bruce in Coupar Angus, as is demonstrated by the instrument of sasine noticed below. He is not the son of Thomas Bruce of Blairhall and his wife Jean Henderson, as is falsely claimed here, and he should be disconnected from their family tree immediately.

29 April 1701: Instrument of sasine narrating sasine given by John Chrystie [Christie], glover in Cowper [Coupar], as bailie for Margaret Gray, relict of deceased James Haliburtone of Wattriebutts [Halliburton of Waterybutts] and now spouse to David Ogilvie in Glenmarkie, to Thomas Will in Cowper as attorney for John Ogilvie, bailie depute of the regality of Coupar, of an annualrent of 600 merks Scots, to be uplifted from the lands of Balbrogie; on a precept contained in a disposition dated at Coupar, 28 November 1700, and witnessed by William Farquharsone [Farquharson] of Shanallie, Alexander Ogilvie of Auldallan, and William Rattray, clerk of Coupar. Witnesses: Andrew Bruntoune [Brunton] in Cowper; William Aitkine [Aitken], brewer there; THOMAS BRUCE, SON TO PATRICK BRUCE, FLESHER THERE, James Bwrman, son to the notary. Notary - Andrew Burman, Dunkeld diocese. (Particular Register of Sasines for the Sheriffdom of Perth, volume 14, folio 68]

It seems quite clear that this is a duplicate, and I find no support for the relationships proposed on this copy. If no evidence is provided in the near future, we can cut and merge.

Absolute nonsense!

Ashley explain what seems clear?

Philip, you need to converse in a respectful manner. Please remember the Code of Conduct to which we all agreed.

There are five media files uploaded to this profile, presumably intended as sources. Four of the files are from FamilySearch's International Genealogy Index, which I understand other curators have already explained to you is not a trustworthy source and is no longer used in genealogy. The fifth is a corrupted FindMyPast file that contains no usable information.

If you want to make a genealogical argument, you need to use strong sources. You are welcome to do so here, but it needs to be done in a measured tone, and it can't rely on other trees or on the IGI. Thanks.

As for what's "clear"...I was referring to this profile being a clear duplicate of Thomas Bruce, Flesher and Brewer in Coupar Angus.

Is there any reason why these branches should not be merged at this point? Private User, what are your thoughts?

These profile refer to the same nan I agree that they should be merged.

Merges complete; you may want to check the data conflicts on Thomas Bruce, Flesher and Brewer in Coupar Angus and Jean Scobie
