Thomas Bruce, the husband of Janet Scobie, was a flesher and brewer in Coupar Angus. He was the son of Patrick Bruce in Coupar Angus, as is demonstrated by the instrument of sasine noticed below. He is not the son of Thomas Bruce of Blairhall and his wife Jean Henderson, as is falsely claimed here, and he should be disconnected from their family tree immediately.
29 April 1701: Instrument of sasine narrating sasine given by John Chrystie [Christie], glover in Cowper [Coupar], as bailie for Margaret Gray, relict of deceased James Haliburtone of Wattriebutts [Halliburton of Waterybutts] and now spouse to David Ogilvie in Glenmarkie, to Thomas Will in Cowper as attorney for John Ogilvie, bailie depute of the regality of Coupar, of an annualrent of 600 merks Scots, to be uplifted from the lands of Balbrogie; on a precept contained in a disposition dated at Coupar, 28 November 1700, and witnessed by William Farquharsone [Farquharson] of Shanallie, Alexander Ogilvie of Auldallan, and William Rattray, clerk of Coupar.
