According to My True Ancestry he is J2a1 ~

I do not know if the database of my true ancestry is agreed upon by all genetic researchers. They make it difficult to find details about the samples.

Hugh Montgomery, 1st Earl of Eglinton is your 14th cousin 9 times removed.

I have a basic account, so got just a small sampling and can't compare with this profile, but my True Ancestry results seem to agree with Geni's lines, Ancestry, and Gedcom's ancient DNA comparisons:

I removed about half of the list which were "Hidden" (asking me to upgrade). I'd be particularly interested in seeing the one that claims me to be a 99% match (compared with the other users of the site.

They're saying my top ancient ethnicity is Celtic Parisi, which on the map of England is located just south of the old Whitby Abbey PLUS Cherusci. So they give the two as a combination.

The Cherusci were an Elbe Germanic tribe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irminones

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_early_Germanic_peoples

Although apparently the largest, it's just a small portion of my 'known' ancient DNA. Ancestry currently has me at just under half English with pretty much all the rest in countries that would be described as located in or very near the North Atlantic.

Oddly though, I keep finding a strong connection to some of those Hungarian ancient samples. So I'm assuming their descendants settled in England or the British Isles.

Hugh Montgomery, 1st Earl of Eglinton is your second cousin 14 times removed. Through Mary of Scotland, Countess of Angus

My True Ancestry has these ancient groups as my top matches (the numbers are the standard deviation or something, so the ones at the top of the list are closer related to me).

Celtic Parisi + Cherusci (2.086)
Celtic Parisi + Frank (2.662)
Celt + Frank (3.153)
Briton + Frank (3.232)
Briton + Cherusci (3.475)
Frank (5.655)
Celt (7.46)
Celtic Parisi (7.846)
Briton (8.608)
Cherusci (8.727)

They say I share DNA segments with "High Status Male Haunstetten 1946 BC"

I'd have to upgrade to see more, but this one ranks 89% closer than other matching users.

Haunstetten is bordered to the east by the Haunstetten Forest, which runs along the entire eastern border of the Planungsraum. The lowland geography of Haunstetten has allowed for the development of extensive heathlands.

Sorry, I hadn't visited this site in a long time, so had a lot of catching up to do. They're saying this is how I relate to modern populations:

1. Southeast_English (6.786)
2. South_Dutch (6.809)
3. Southwest_English (7.263)
4. Irish (8.466)
5. Flemish (9.257)
6. West_Scottish (9.273)
7. North_German (9.332)
8. French (9.704)

Note that they are all European (I'm American), so the numbers are rather distant. I'd expect British or any European to be more closely related to these groups.

Yeah, in the PCA analysis chart, although I'm closer to these groups than others like for example Eastern Europe and Spain -- I'm still showing as a bit of an outlier, kind of stuck off to the side by myself. :D

Yikes, I just learned from MTA that I'm genetically related to the Dobunni tribe of pre-Roman Iron Age England:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobunni

I wasn't aware of it!

Aww nice he's my 17th great uncle so makes us cousins from him. I descend from his sister.

If the remains of Hugh Montgomery, first Earl of Eglinton, have been identified and tested for DNA I would be pleased to learn about it. Could the details be posted here.

My 5th cousin 16x removed.

He's my 15th GGF as well.

His sister, Euphemia Montgomery is my 16th great grandmother. He is my 17th great uncle, according to Geno researchers data.

Also in law related via his son, Sir Neil Montgomery of Lainshaw.
Hugh Montgomery, 1st Earl of Eglinton is my fifth great uncle's, fourth great grandfather.

Hugh Montgomery, 1st Earl of Eglinton is your 14th great grandfather.
