I received the request to update info on this profile. What very little info I've seen on this person is from Wiki and is already noted in her profile notes here on Geni:

Cornelius (bd abt 1735, d by 1754), mar unknown woman who later married Willis McCoy b.c. 1737 from Farquier Co VA mar @1755 Mrs. Cornelius Kesiah; Craven Co NC. (query R McCoy)

"Assuming' his wife who later married Willis McCoy was an indian woman since no name is given for her and Cornelius was Native American. Usually if a white woman married a Native man, it was noteworthy enough to know her name . It' s more common than the names of Native women were often unknown.

The info available says she was unknown. I've seen nothing about the surname Ecclin connected to this person. If you have documentation / source(s) for that, it would help to put that in her About section notes. I don't even know how she got connected to parents with the surname Cornelius here on Geni since there's no info on that either.

My best guess is the Cornelius surname attached as her parents here on Geni is a confusion with the fact that her first husband's name was Cornelius, since there's no evidence of who her parents actually were. And as for the suggested maiden name of Ecclin for her, unless there is documentation for that, a change to that would be changing from one unproven maiden name to another.

I totally agree with all you are saying. I didn't add any information to the profile, I have only merged three instances that clearly was the same, but with some confused information (as Cornelius as surname) that is not documented.

The request to update indicated that it was being requested to add the maiden name Ecclin. That must have come from the merges you mentioned.

I cleaned up her & her parents names. Probably NN “Cornelius” was dats entry with “use same surname” ticked off, and not a claim that her birth parents were surnamed Cornelius.

Thanks, Erica. She and her McCoy husband are my son's paternal 6th great-grandparents. Maybe one day more info will come to light about who she was.
