Adam de Peshale was the younger brother of Sir Richard de Peshale. They were born in the early 1290s, and were probably sons of Richard de Swinerton who died young about 1294, but from whom they inherited the Swinerton coat of arms. They took the name 'de Whethales' as infants when their mother Anna de Peshale married Adam de Whethales. They then took the name 'de Peshale' because Richard inherited the Lordship of the Manor of Peshale via Anna, granddaughter of Thomas de Peshale.
