Herbert was fairly closely related to his wife. The paternal grandmother of his mother-in-law Lucy CLASSON (nee ETTERY), Ann ETTERY (nee TANNER), was the sister of his own paternal grandmother, Arabella SHERBORNE (nee TANNER).
So essentially he married his second cousin once removed.
I wonder if he knew of the connection.
