Hi, I am new to the site and have been for a couple years now trying to find living relatives that may be living in the Borog area near Leles/Polany.

I have visited Bratislava a couple times but was not able to find a way to make the trip up there. Hopefully here there may be someone who knows more than I and can share with me a few things I could do.

Thank you, Jeffery Wm. Pataky / Michigan / USA

My ancestoers the Graselas came from Rostoki Poland

I really do not have any knowledge on my ancestry from here.

Jeffrey, we're in Wisconsin so I don't think there's anything that we can do for you but we wish you happy holidays and a wonderful new year. Russ and Jan Asala

Hi Jeffrey--

My great-grandmother was a Pataki [Pataky], and she was from that exact same area. I have done a huge amount of research on her family and I think a connection is likely. Feel free to email me at robertbhanscom@gmail.com.

How far back have you taken your line? If you give me a name or two, I'll see if I have them in my database.

Best regards,

Bob Hanscom

Hello everyone.

My parents immigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1949. They came from Michalovce.

My mom was born in Nemecka Poruba in Czech and my dad from a Czech border town in Poland.

I know my mom lived in Bratislava at some point.

My great grandparents immigrated from Hungary, and so I have been through this. There is a free website run by the Hungarian government (National Archives of Hungary) where you can do genealogy research. Since all records are in the Hungarian (Magyar) language, it helps of you can read and understand that language (I cannot). https://mnl.gov.hu/angol/mnl/ol/family_research

You can also go physically to the National Archives of Hungary, in Budapest, and do research in person. I found ancestry.com, My Heritage, and Family Search to all be very lacking in Hungarian genealogy records.

I ended up hiring a professional genealogy researcher in Budapest, who specializes in that geographic region. His name is László Mlecsenkov, and his Facebook profile is https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100010263278469&mibexti...
He speaks decent enough English, and his rates are about ⅓ of what genealogy research costs in the USA. For me he found nearly 30 ancestors in 5 generations, that I was unable to find by myself! The cost was a little over $300 in 2019. He told me that he could also look for living relatives for me, but I didn't pursue that. I HIGHLY recommend him.

László's website is

Jeffrey, I have a William Pataky in my family tree. Parents are Josef Klein and Bertha Bernice’s. If you think there is any connection DM me.

Hello, Jeffrey!
Happy holidays!
My father was from Moravia and my oldest uncle on his side was from Slovakia. I know nothing about my Grandparents family Walach/Krupica. A lot of descendants, but that's about it. I know really nothing about my ancestors and would like to know more. Any thoughts? I know nothing of my mother's ancestors.. Her parents died before I was born, and my mother died when I was 7.
Any input from you would be greatly appreciated. My email is DJPW1954@Aol.com.

I asked Ancestry.com if I am related to anyone with the name Pataky in their family tree and they told me that I am related to: Lisa Pataky, a 5th – 8th Cousin 9 cM ( < 1% shared DNA)

My mom didn't know she was pregnant when she married the man who raised me. I just recently found out that my father was not my biological father. I'm on multiple sites hoping to put the pieces together. It would be nice to pass the truth down to my children. I have some Eastern European in me but the paternal side is more German. So the Eastern European is my paternal grandparents. I have a whole lot of cousins that I do not know but thankfully I found a few good ones trying to help me. I was born in Brooklyn, NY.

My Grandmother, Ernestine Rosenak, was born near Smolenice, Trnava, Slovakia in1891 when that area was part of the Kingdom of Hungary, Austro Hungarian Empire. Her parents, Jacob and Leni Rosenak, brought the family to the USA in the early 1900's, settling in Peoria, Ill.

My grandmother Mary Raffai (Raffay) was born in Sisov, Slovakia Sept 20, 1902 died 1978
Her mother Eva Caro 1865–1932
BIRTH 24 DEC 1865 • Trnava, Trnavsky, Slovakia
DEATH 1 APR 1932 • Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio

John Raffay her father
B:abt 1864 Slovenia
D:1 Mar 1934 Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio
I visited the small ( really small) farming community of Sissov Slovakia (where she and her siblings were born ) several years ago there was a big language barrier but the employee at the Post Office called her daughter who spoke English and we talked. Apparently, there were no records in the town. I forget where they were sent, it was a larger town. She recommended I search on Ancestry.
