Margaret Lochmalony was the mother of David Thomsoun, portioner of Kettle in Fife. This proposition is confirmed by a crown charter dated 29 September 1541, which reveals that her son David inherited part of the lands of Kettle in Fife directly from his grandfather, that is from John Thomsoun, portioner of Kettle. Her husband, that is David Thomsoun’s father, is not mentioned by name in this charter. From this omission it may be deduced that her husband may have died before 28 September 1541. As much is certainly suggested by the fact that the charter treats Margaret Lochmalony as a widow, making financial provision for her and her unnamed younger children.

Since the father of Margaret Lochmalony’s son David was himself the son of John Thomson, portioner of Kettle in Fife, it follows that he cannot possibly have been Andrew Thomsoun, portioner of Freuchie in Fife, because he was the son of Thome Thomsoun.
In view of the foregoing, I propose to disconnect Margaret Lochmalony from the family tree of Andrew Thomsoun, portioner of Freuchie in Fife.
