Silas B. Black - Parents

I have been trying to find who his parents are.

Familysearch has father as William Nelson Black and mother as Polly Atkinson. However, in census records for age 5 he is listed as adopted and uncle. There is a record of mother being Hoover and father as Black.

If you can figure out if he was, in fact, adopted, we can have both sets of parents on the tree.

I looked up his profile on Find a Grave https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/137653275/silas-b-black

This says his mother's maiden name was Hoover, but doesn't give a first name. Atkins could be a middle name, or this could have been a second marriage for her and Atkins was her first married name.

Let me know what your thoughts are, and we can adjust the tree accordingly.

Rereading the obit, he had a sister whose last name was Hoover. Other possibilities are Hoover was the last name of her first husband, or she had a daughter out of wedlock.

I'll leave things the way they are for now, until one of us finds more information.

I have been trying for months to find anything. There is a story that his mother was shot and killed by his father. Though, I have not been able to find anything about such. I do have a request in to the historical society in Banner Springs, TN.

His only living daughter has dementia so she would not be of any help and I don't have contact info for his living son. I should have asked his wife/other children years ago.
