I was following the discussion where Gideon was disconnected from invalid parents. He's direct for me, so I'm very interested in his lineage. I was just searching, don't know if it's accurate - but Wiki shows him as a son of Gilbert Gibson I:

But this site says his father was John Jordan Gibson, which is also showing on Ancestry as his father in their Hints:

Polly, he's very distant for me - 16th ggf - lol

That wiki connection can't be right. I was double-checking the details if if they have the dates right, that would make Gilbert Gibson 9 years old when our Gideon was born. So it seems to be yet another same-name mix-up on the various Gideon Gibsons.

Polly, what's interesting is that when I was Googling to try to find more info, he and his wife show up on this Jewish genealogy site:

https://www.jewishgen.org/databases

I'm still being processed there, takes up to 24 hrs., so I can't search the database, but the screenshot I did see has his father as John Jordan Gibson but didn't take the lineage any farther back. It also has the wrong parents for his wife though, so doesn't seem to be very reliable on the bit I was able to see. I was more interested that they show up in Jewish genealogy.

Hi Debbie:

The Wikitree genealogy is incorrect. That Gilbert Gibson I was a planter in Louisa County, VA, and if you look at the details for his children at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gibson-6692, you will see that his son Gilbert was born around 1714 and resident in Louisa County in 1746 and in 1767 - thus not the same as the Gideon Gibson of the Congaree River, who had already settled in North Carolina around 1720 and moved on to South Carolina around 1730.

Privat Schwind, I had already posted that the Wiki info would be wrong just based on that Gilbert would have had to fathered our Gideon when he was only 9 years old. So I made a post to point that out on Wiki. I find a lot of errors on Wiki these days.

Debbie Gambrell - I logged into JewishGen I see him on “the Family Tree of the Jewish People”. Doesn’t mean that he’s Jewish, but that someone him in their tree, and so, no more (or less) reliable than any other tree. The submitter is reachable by email.

Joanne Pezzullo Has the most complete research I’ve seen. I noticed her work years ago.

If you notice, I said that the info didn't seem very reliable. I only shared it because years back when these lines were being gone thru as part of an atDNA study group, it was mentioned that they were one of those mixed communities that had Jewish ancestry as well. I'd never had any of my research take me to an actual Jewish genealogy site though, so thought others might like the link for research not just on these lines but any others reported to have Jewish lineage. I'm still waiting the 24 hrs. to have full access to the site.

I wasn't at all disputing Joanne's research. I've had links to her site on the profiles in my tree for years. As said, just sharing the Jewish genealogy site as it was something new to turn up - for me anyway.

JewishGen was how I got started, actually. The researchers are very helpful there. But the record I saw was part of a GED file, so …
