I believe Lucinda Bryson and Lucinda Langley have been mixed up on FamilySearch, resulting in two families being mashed together here on Geni. Lucinda is currently showing 16 kids intermingled between two families (Bryson/Brison and Langley) over the course of over 30 years. Lucinda (Freeman) Langley is my 2nd great grandmother, and I found her through Sarah Gabbert (known personally to my mother). The two census records I've attached give evidence of the following family members:

1850: Husband Archibald (~1816) with children Cornelia (~1840), Isaac (~1842), William (~1844), Lawrence (~1846) and George (~1848)
1870: Children Henry (~1840), George (~1849), James (~1850), John (~1852), Sarah (~1854*), Temperance (~1856), Albert (~1856), Lucinda (~1858)

All of the surnames above are Langley, all of the kids are born in Missouri (Lucinda is listed as born in Tennessee). It seems she and Archibald made a point of cranking out kids every 2 years between 1842 and 1860. Archibald died serving in the confederate army in 1863.

(*Sarah is listed as 16 years old in the 1870 census but I have her born January 19, 1850 (taken from her obituary posted to Find a Grave) and this is consistent with her entry in the 1920 census.)

The other children listed for her currently are:

George Washington Bryson (1851 in TN)
John Brison (1855 in TN)
James Franklin Bryson (1861 in MO)
Mary C (Langley) Messer (1866)

Mary is especially interesting to me as she was born 3 years after Archibald's death, however she's my great grandmother and I know she's paired with Sarah Gabbert (Sarah raised Mary's children, including my grandmother, after Mary's death at the age of 34).

As for the Bryson / Brison family, I pulled at a few threads and they lead back to FamilySearch showing that Lucinda Freeman is their mother, however I think this is incorrect. For example, they have a "Dr James Edward Bryson" (note middle name not Franklin) listed as the son of Samuel Bryson and Lucinda Freeman, yet his obituary at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89VT-QCGK?view=ind... lists James Edward's parents as Andew and Elizabeth Bryson. This may have nothing to do with James Franklin Bryson but it goes to demonstrate that FamilySearch is confused about Lucinda's kids.

It seems impossible Lucinda could have birthed the Bryson kids in Tennessee, around the same years she had the Langley kids in Missouri. And the father Samuel F. Bryson is said to have born and died in North Carolina.

At the very least I think we need to separate the Bryson family from Lucinda Freeman -- I can't find who the mother is, but I'm pretty sure it's not this woman in Missouri.

Thanks Erica!
