James Shook might've had a first wife: Elizabeth Haythornwaithe - I found her emigration record for arrival in Baltimore, MD 1820 - And the dates of children's births allow for James's first two sons being born to a first wife - But the harringtonfamlies website doesn't list a second wife and the US census shows James and his wife "Zilpha" with all their known children but shown on the website as children of James and Elizabeth. Also the birth dates on the Harrington website don't match exactly with the James and Zilpha children.
There were a number of James Shook living in PA in the 19th cent. very easy to confuse one for the other.
My honest opinion is that there's not enough historical records remaining to say one way or the other if James Shook was married to Elizabeth before marring Zilpha.
