I have been researching this for many years, and have run into a snag evert time. None of the geneological sites I have looked into. My ancestor is James S. Wilcox. The S is for Seymour. Grave is in Allegany County, N.Y. Rogers Cemetery. This cemetery includes, his wife, a daughter, a son, and assuming his father, Nathaniel Willcox, 1788 - 8/2/1835.
Next we have Surogate Court records from Allegany County, November 1835, listing 7 children, including my James S. Wilcox. Wife Mariah Wilcox, as executor. He last will and testament lists his wife Maria, a Seymour Wilcox, and Hollibut Wilcox.. who are they. Have to assume relatives. A statement of account dated in July 1839 lists both owing $$ to them.
I have tried locating birth and death records of all the 7 children. All dead ends.. I was able to locate an 1860 census from Lawrence county, Pa. Showing Edwin Wilcox being 36 years old, and Maria Wilcox, 60 years old. So she would have been born in 1800, born in Connecticut .
A DC for Edward shows Nathaniel and Mariah as parents, and Mary as his wife. MtJackson, Lawrence county, Pa. Died in 1853.
There is a Nathaniel Willcox, 1723 - 1799 with wife Abigail.. one son Josiah Wilcox, 1752 and Abner Wilcox, 1754. abner had a son, hollabut, 1780, and Josiah had a son, Seymour, 1793. This would strongly suggest everyone has the wrong Nathaniel. I hope you can make heads and tails out of my discussion. BB
