Hello Donovan, Sharon and followers,
Could you help me understand the table of "Recorded movement -(Estimate) Arrivals vs Departure Total to date:" please? Am I reading it correctly?
Looking at the arrivals and departures there appear to be some decades where more people left than arrived. From the table, subtracting the departures from arrivals there is a net growth up to 1660 of 381, by 1670 adding a further 61 but by 1680 a nett departure of 681 and by 1690 a further 1,833 (hence more people left than arrived?)
I am probably misreading the intent of the table, if so please forgive my wrong headedness :)
Many thanks.
Stef

Digging a little deeper it looks to me (although I happily bow to those with more knowledge and experience than I have!) that the ship HUIS TE VELSEN left Texel on 11th October 1671 and arrived in the Cape in 1672.

I have added the ship "Huis te Velsen" as an arrival based on the Huygens resource quoted above.

Hello all. Using the resources of the KNAW and Huygens Instituut I have added all the ships that appear in the digitised VOC records between 1600 and the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck. This proved (hopefully) a backdrop to the Dutch comings and goings from the Neetherlands to the East Indies. I have also added a bit more detail to correct the departure dates for the Drommedaris, Goede Hoop and Reiger from the VOC records.
Any comments or brickbats, please let me know (but be gentle with me, this is my first attempt at editing and I have tried to follow the template used previously).
Met vriendelike groete/Warm regards,
Stef
