John Pollock is presently identified as the son of Robert Pollock of Mearns and his wife Catherine Ralston. He is said to have been born at Beith in North Ayrshire in c. 1674. This is wrong. He is in fact the son of Robert Pollock of Greenhill, in the parish of Neilston. He was born before 16 May 1675, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Beith in the Cunningham division of Ayrshire, Scotland. The name of his mother is not record in his baptismal record. It reads as follows: "1675. Maij 16. John laufull sone to Robert Pollock of Greenhill within the parish of Neilstoun was baptized."

Unless evidence to the contrary is brought forward I propose to disconnect him from the family tree of Robert Pollock of Mearns and his wife Catherine Ralston and identify him anew as the son of Robert Pollock of Greenhill.
