Lucinda Henderson and Lucinda J. Lane get confused as the same individual. Birth years and fathers have close names, and each may also have a sibling named William.

Little source information has been attached for the second profile, the 1880 U.S. census records show they are definitely different individuals, https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000205134857827 and https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000205133842938. The first individual was living with her father William John Henderson mother, and three children in Bell County, Kentucky. The second individual was living with her husband, two sons, and brother-in-law in Denton County, Texas.

Geni has suggested a match for Louisa Henderson and Louisa (Liza) Henderson They are the same person, but there are errors that should be corrected prior to a merge.

This individual is, in fact, the mother of the first profile, Lucinda Henderson. Lucinda J. Lane should be removed as a daughter of Louisa (Liza) Henderson

Louisa (Liza) Henderson records James Partin as a husband without providing any substantiation. His date of birth and date of death match those of her brother James Partin/Parton, who was married to her husband’s sister Delilah Henderson (see: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/24101458/james-parton and https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/K2XN-VGL). This profile should be removed as her husband and added as her brother.

Profiles were erroneously merged for William J Henderson, Sr. of Sumner County, Tennessee and William J. Of Claiborne County, Tennessee, son of Edward Henderson and Rebecca Henderson They were then removed and replaced as parents. Their son is now represented as William John Henderson It should be noted that Sumner County and Claiborne County in Tennessee are distant, so the likelihood of records for these individuals overlapping is quite remote. *These profiles should not be merged.* However the details provided for William J Henderson, Sr. probably belong to William John Henderson

Thank you Phillip.

If there is a merge you want undone, post in https://www.geni.com/discussions/272643
Only a Curator can undo a merge. And curators monitor that discussion. So also the place to post if you need their help for anything else.

I don't mind working on untangling the lines with the assistance of a curator, but I didn't just want to do it without everyone being aware, in advance.

There should be no need to reverse a merge. I had to create a new William John Henderson to connect to Edward Henderson (because the relationship no longer remained). I would have never known of the William J Henderson, Sr. profile had there not been a recommended match on the daughters and wives.

Because there are two individuals named William, and there are two corresponding profiles connected to the "correct" fathers, I think reversing the merge would just create more confusion. I believe it would be better to:

1.) Correct the data/vital information for each William J. profile as distinct individuals;
2.) Fix the relationships for the Louisa (Liza) Henderson profile to:
a.) reflect that James Partin is her sibling (i.e. son of Elam Frazier Parton and Malinda A. (Lindy) Parton and *not* her husband;
b.) delete Lucinda J. Lane as *her* daughter (she is still the daughter of William J Henderson, Sr.);
c.) delete the marriage between Louisa (Liza) Henderson and William J Henderson, Sr.;
3.) Merge the Louisa (Liza) Henderson and Louisa Henderson profiles.

I think that is the short path to untangling the two distinct branches. I apologize for overloading everyone, but I figured none of us wanted to be stepping on each others toes.

The confusion is inevitable. There are just so many similarities. If it weren't for significant geographic distances, I am not sure we could ever get this sorted out. For what it is worth, the identity mix-up was/is present on FamilyShare and it exists in the hints on Ancestry. I personally don't work in MyHeritage or other similar sites, but I would anticipate it being an issue there as well. So I suspect the issue will keep cropping up for a while.

I have fixed the relationships, and requested the merge for Louisa (Liza) Henderson and Louisa Henderson It just needs to be approved.

Philip B. Setters - you may wish to ask for the similar profiles to be curated with locked relationships. It’s the only way to keep the mixup from happening again. When ready, Post with links and what fields should be locked at

https://www.geni.com/discussions/272715

We can also write a brief “curator note” to float above the profile with deconflicting info.

Erica Howton, thank you for the advice. I am still getting my feet wet with the Geni culture and trying to digest the documentation.
