Disputed Origins

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ball-558

A previous version of this profile claims, without source, that Edward's parents were Richard Ball (of Maryland) and Elizabeth Linton.

Ronald Ames Hill argues that Edward's parents were William Ball and his wife Ann:[5]

The probable origins of Edward Ball were discovered in a search of the series Virginia County Court Records,... In an Essex County Order Book, May 1692-April 1693, the following interesting entry was recorded on 11 April 1693:

Wm. Ball appear'd in Court and acknowledged a Deed of Sale to his three children viz: Sarah, Edward and John Ball to be his act & deed, the same is ordered to be recorded.[6]

William's deed to his three children was duly recorded in the Essex County deed and Will Book, July 1692-1693.

Edward Ball and his wife Keziah, are the ancestors of many people researching this family. He and his family have been mentioned numerous times in various histories regarding Middlesex County, Virginia, as the ancestors of those Ball Families. They are mentioned in the Book "A Place in Time- Middlesex County Virgina 1650-1750" by Darrett B and Anita H Rutman.

Edward is mentioned in the will of William Ball of Essex County, Virginia, in regards to paying for and having transferred to him a Grey mare, and one cow called Daisy. The mention of him in this regard, has placed him as the son of this William Ball and his wife, Ann, and many researchers have concluded that this Edward Ball, is in fact, the Edward Ball married to Keziah Osborne Ball. The research that has been done on the William Ball listed as Edward's father, has been well documented and is included, for the most part, on William Ball's detail page. The area of residency that William and Ann lived is in very close proximity to the Christchurch Parish location in Middlesex County, Virginia area, and therefore is a good fact for concluding the parental declaration of this Edward Ball.

William Ball and his partner, John Price, and then son-in-law, due to the marriage of John's daughter, Elizabeth, to William Ball's son, John, are documented land purchasers and a newly released report about the Rappahanock is listed as a source on William Ball's detail page.

~ EDWARD BALL ~
Ancestors of my 5th Great Uncle William Ball S/o Daniel Ball, Jr. & Elizabeth Osborne

Notes: The Ball family of Middlesex Co., VA. is possibly related to the Ball family of Lancaster Co., VA. from which family George Washington, First President of the U. S., is descended. Actual proof of this relationship is not now available, however, if, in fact, this relationship exists, it is probably in generations previous to Col. William Ball and the Edward Ball, Sr. of Middlesex, which would take it back into pre-colonial England.
