Where is the source that William Byrd was her father?

What information do you have?

I’m just seeing this.

It's very unlikely that Elizabeth was the daughter of William and Lucy Byrd, as it's documented that Lucy had a boy (Parke) within a few months of when Elizabeth was supposedly born, which is obviously impossible. I could find no records supporting the idea that William and Lucy had a daughter named Elizabeth.

Elias DeJarnette/Dejarnet, a son of Jean and Mary
(Mumford) deJarnat, was probably born in 1704 in
Gloucester County, Va., and was baptized there on
20 August 1704. He married Elizabeth ____ and
lived in Amelia (later Prince Edward) County. According
to his will, dated 9 August 1768 and proved
18 July 1769 in Prince Edward County, he and
Elizabeth had five children: Ann Rebecca “Annaka,”

Somebody assumed that Elizabeth was a Byrd, but why? Maybe a widow or ex-wife of a Byrd instead? I've seen that kind of thing before.

There was an association between the De Jarnettes & William Byrd, II, "The Black Swan" of Westover in settling Huguenot refugees at Manikintown,

Elias De Jarnette married Elizabeth Palmer (by inference). Wife Elizabeth is named in his will dated August 9, 1768, which was recorded in Prince Edward County July 1, 1769. He names children Rebecca De Jarnette, Elias De Jarnette, Jr., Marymiah De Jarnette, John T. De Jarnette, and Thomas De Jarnette. …

Palmer? The Palmers descend from this putative marriage, which is where I come in.

Note that:

  • The destruction of the court records of Gloucester County prevents any discovery from that source of any data relative to this family,
  • The Abingdon Parish Register (which is unindexed) has been examined down to the year 1729 without discovering any further Dejarnett items.
  • The court records of New Kent County were all destroyed and the Register of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent, 1680-1787, and the Vestry Book of the same parish, 1682-1758, afford no data relative to this family; the fragments of records in King William and the order books (the only remaining colonial records) of Caroline County have not been examined.
