I started wondering about this unusual name "Auno". Aina was a popular name around 1900, but later many of them used the Finnish name Aino, which is from Kalevala. In the linked 1911-1920 churc book, it looks like her name is written as "Aino". So could "Auno" be a confusion between "Aino" and "Aune" (which is the Finnish form of Agnes), and her calling name was actually Aino?

She was born in Ylitornio 16.2.1890 as Aina Mathilda Heikki. When she died 3.8.1965 in Turtola, her name was Aina Matilda Heikkilä. Aina Matilda had a daughter called Aune Elisabet (born 3.8.1913 in Turtola, died 25.11.1965 in Kemijärvi). Maybe Aina Matilda was just called Auno?

Of course her calling name could also have been Auno, but that would be a very unusual name. Also, it sounds a bit odd that she would have used another second name (Elisabet) than her christened second name (Matilda). That's why I thought that a "broken phone" effect might have happened her (Auno and Aino sound very similar when spoken).

It is quite possible that she was only called Auno, but her real name was Aina. Auno died when my grandmother was a teenager and all the information I have is based on my grandmother's memory. According to my grandmother's photobook from Kemijärvi, Auno, originally from Pello, wed Frans Heikkilä of Rattosjärvi. In the book, her death was recorded on August 3, 1965. Therefore, it’s certain that the Auno mentioned by my grandmother is indeed Aina. The attribution of the middle name Elisabeth to her may be erroneous. It’s a family tradition—my mother, grandmother, and her mother, Aune, all bear Elisabeth as their middle name. It’s conceivable that my grandmother assumed Auno, or Aina, shared this middle name as well.
