I'm noting that neither children would have been born in Massachusetts Bay Colony if one accepts Charles Anderson's bio.

MIGRATION: 1634 (based on land grants and freemanship)

i BETHIA HOPKINS, b. about 1631 [TAG 77:25-271; m. (1) Hartford 27 May 1652 Samuel Stocking, son of George Stocking [HaVR 608); m. (2) by 1685 James Steele, son of GEORGE STEELE (1633, Cambridge} [TAG 36:188; GMB 3:1755].

Ii STEPHEN HOPKINS, b. say 1633; m. by 1657 Dorcas Brownson, daughter of JOHN BROWNSON (1637, Hartford) [TAG 38:204 (and the sources cited there).

Curious to know the origin of thinking John was born "Perhaps St. Stephens, London, Middlesex, England".

I assume this conjecture to mean one of the following:
– London St Stephen Coleman Street, Middlesex, England
– St Stephen Walbrook church (which burned down with records destroyed in 1666)
– the parish of London's St Stephen Walbrook with St Benet Sherehog

I’ve never seen a Gedcom upload with anything as detailed as “the parish of London's St Stephen Walbrook with St Benet Sherehog.”

I reviewed just now the best source.

"John Hopkins of Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1634, and Some of His Descendants" (1932, Stanford Univ. Press). https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE223274

He doesn’t venture origins. I think I read an implication for County Essex and Rev. Hooker’s congregation, but this Hopkins does not seem to have been more than a moderate Puritan (if that’s not an oxymoron.)

I searched some histories too. No light shed on his birth place. I think early colonial emigrant Hopkins almost exclusively left England. In later decades, some came over the pond from Wales.

In my personal tree, I went with England for his birth.
