Robert James Shaw wrote on this thread:

My great great grandfather did not die a premature death in Glasgow, nor is he buried there (my family are all from the north of Ireland), and he was not married to a Jane Chambers. (My great great grandmother's name was Anna Maria Chambers (née Belford)).

Vernon Henry van Wyk (Potgieter) can you post any evidence that the main profile (on which this discussion appears) was the same as the one you had in mind when you merged them and to which added other family members? At this stage, it certainly appears as if Robert Shaw is right and that all the changes back to 23 January may have to be overturned.

Robert may be correct. Geni Smart Matches however keep on indicating that William Jammes Chambers died in Glasgow, even with the corrected spouse Anna Maria Belford.
Anna Maria Chambers

The link provided here is also for another William James Chambers, The spouse of Anna Maria is
John Cairns Chambers

I do not know how to rectify this further!

Can Robert provide dates, etc for his Grandfather?

Hi Vernon Henry van Wyk (Potgieter)

This William John Chambers is my great great grandfather, he was added to Geni by my mother:
John Cairns Chambers

You have apparently merged the profile my mother created with someone that is not related to me, whose date and place of birth are July 10, 1890 in Kinning Park, Glasgow.

The William John Chambers that is my great great grandfather could not have been born in 1890 because his son, my great grandfather Robert John Chambers was born in Crossgar, Banbridge on 27th September 1889. (Info from General Register Office (Northern Ireland) Registration number U/1889/35/1006/7/293.)

It's hard for me to confidently provide "dates, etc." for my great great grandfather because I can't be sure who in the current tree I am and am not related to due to this bad merge. Hopefully the evidence of my great grandfather Robert John Chambers' birth is sufficient proof that the William John Chambers in my tree is not the one who was born in Glasgow in 1890.

Thanks,

Robert Shaw

@Vernon: Thank you for engaging with us on this issue. Don't feel too bad, we all make mistakes, and I have made more than I care to count. The important bit is to restore all links and information to its correct status.

@Robert: I suggest you go through each of the profiles and identify where mistakes are found. Then post here the URLs of each profile concerned, the actual problem, and propose a solution. I know that it will take a fairly long time, but what I hope to see is that both your branch and Vernon's branch be preserved and corrected.

As a Geni curator, I can activate superpowers to effect changes wherever either of you cannot gain access. Both of you are encouraged to let me know where I can assist.
