The 1850 census Willis https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/17152596?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22... Willis P Dixon is not him.

This IS him: 1870 https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/17151057?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22...
Home in 1870: Dixons Mills, Marengo, Alabama

I haven't seen him yet in 1880 but I THINK this 1900 census William Dixon https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/17152845?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22... might be him
William Dixon
Birthplace Alabama, USA
Home in 1900 Dixon Mills, Marengo, Alabama

Willis is the husband of Mariah Grayson.
Mariah Dixon
I found the image of their marriage record at FS. I had to scroll through to where I thought they might be and they are both seen as colored.
Therefore she cannot be the daughter of Squire Grant Grayson and one of his two wives since they are all enumerated in census as white and she is not enumerated in the 1850 census.
I have added a no name partner for SG Grayson and moved Mariah to her however there needs to be some evidence that shows he is her father.
I am here trying to help connect a line.
Stepping off.
Thank you

Funny thing--- Ancestry already has the image of the marriage record tagged for this couple :)

Cynthia, i have full Ancestry membership with more white DNA matches than coloreds. I am a Grayson, Gaines and Kennedy direct descendant. Thousands of significant "white" DNA matches. But before you start creating NPE profiles you should ask a match politely to reveal their DNA breakdown and rule out African DNA. Ask to see the white paper on Ancestry. Mariah Grayson is Squire Graysons daughter.

My DNA ethnicity breakdown is public...African +9. and every 3 months it seems to change less African and more European. LOL. I guess more people testing.

But your dna and tree are not public
I know Thrulines isn’t always correct but you should be able to connect to your European matches at Ancestry and be able to add and prove your lines
I am in several groups at Facebook that have search angels! I am excited for you to get your tree here and get connected

First let me say thank you for finding others of color who are probably my family. We are connected to the European namesake. There is no reason a black man would name his son after a European man unless there was a strong connection. That's a fact.

It was not acceptable to marry a brown person prior to 1865 if you were white? Not just America was racist and color bias. But there were several ways around it. I will name a few...i.e Census takers would tag mulatto instead of negro when they knew one parent was European and most likely for a small fee. When slaves were freed they kept the surnames they were connected to....biologically.

Many brown babies were brought to America from Europe. Just say they were stillborn and quietly bring them to America. Raise them in big houses as 'house servants' never knowing how special they are and on Indian reservations where they blend right in. Perhaps like Sally Hemmings and her half sister Martha, of sorts..or Like my great grandfather Henry Morgan 1845 mulatto
They put mulatto on my step grand mother census Francis Pugh and she black as they come. God rest her soul. But, i dont believe she is the Francis on the census record and my point is those records contain many lies. The only truth is DNA. But those records are all we have to work with to establish a paper lineage.

Disambiguation? Use DNA first before changing what has taken 13 years to research and be prepared to justify any changes other than... sjin color.

Thank you...

Cynthia, you and I have collaborated multiple times on my tree and you have always been very helpful. Geni platform remembers when i started with just a dream. That was many many years ago and many friends made all over the world since then. We may disagree on a few things but at the end of the day Science will always bring us together. My son is Big Y 700 sequenced and i am full genome sequenced by FTDNA and our tree and DNA results are public and available for matching and comparing on multiple platforms. I do this for transparency.

My Gedmatch kits are on the profiles. Thank you all my distant cousins. Especially Canada and Australia and South African cousins that have opened new doors for me to explore. God bless.

Love you Cynthi////nessa
