"Frit" was not her middle name. Nor was it any part of her name. It stems from a transcription error when her record of marriage in Guilford County, NC was converted from the original into typewritten format. The handwriting on the original document is admittedly difficult to read, but a close study shows her name was written as "Winney Fred Jacobs". The writer inserted a space between "y" and "F", capitalizing "F" in the middle of her name as was not uncommon in that time. The transcriber then incorrectly typed "Winney Frit", which then found its way into many web sources.
