Profiles Mentioned:

Johan Fredrik was born "Perävaara" in Kuivakangas a couple of kilometers north of Haapakylä. He was the youngest of three sons and when he married Brita Johanna Johansdotter he took over the Simu homestead in Haapakylä and took on the name Simu.

He had three sons that survived to adult age: Jakob, Levi and Elof. Jakob went to USA to work in the mining industry. Johan Fredrik split his inheritance between his two remaining sons, Levi and Elof. When jakob later came back to Sweden he inherited the Perävaara homestead in Kuivakangas.

It has been told to me by my uncle Loyd (b.1943) that his grandfather Levi used to tell stories about Johan Fredrik: That he used to cover the potatoe plants with blankets so the frost wouldn't bite. Later he'd be mighty proud that he had early harvest of potatoes. And he would often be seen outside chopping firewood and swearing (probably in Meanikeli) at the stubborn logs.
