I have been getting messages from you saying that the last names in my entries don’t match.
In Hindu custom the father’s name comes before the given name.
So for example :
Gardiner Sittampalam’s son would be Sittampalam Ponniah
Sittampalam Ponniah‘s some would be Ponniah Antony at this point it could change because of foreign influence and Ponniah Anthony would be registered as Antony Ponniah ( because he is baptized Catholic.
From then on the family starts following the western model and Antony Ponniah’s son the is Terrence ponniah and his son is Raj Ponniah and so on.
Another problem is that girls names were not recorded in genealogical writings. Most of the time one would be referred to as Alageswara’s second daughter.
Another fact is that the sons would be listed by name but the daughters wouldn’t be. Only the number of daughters would be listed.
Since the families were very large and since isolate communities such as the Christian’s would marry among themselves, there are lot of marriages among second cousins.
