Evita - I am a bit confused about the date of Janis Stilbins death/disappearance. You keep saying he was lost in WWII and my recollection from Opap's article about Brunis, your grandfather, in the Tervetia journal was that Brunis grew up without a father. Both your references say that he was lost in WWII. Can we clarify that?

In my notes I also have WWI, not II, so this would be correct. Speaking about the brother - mom says Brunis has never mentioned anything about a brother. Would Sasha be mistaken? I am still researching Stilbins in the Latvian archives, but it takes time. I have found a large Stilbins family from Valka in the archives, but no thread to Janis Stilbins yet. Still working on it.

Sasha' memory was like a "steel trap" - that is why I am surprised. But of course, it is always possible that his memory slipped - but I would be very surprised that he would make such a statement in a written Memoriam without checking his facts. Good luck.
