Wallace Patterson was outside under a tree playing with his cars, when he heard a shot and then screaming. He went to his moma, Ocie Patterson and told her grandpa Patterson had been shot. Grandma Ocie said he must have been mistaken but finally realized he was right and sent him up on the hill where Grandpa Son was talking to Alfred Crabtree.With Son Patterson as long as an adult was talking a kid couldn't open their mouth or they'd get knocked sideways.He kept squirming around until Alfred said "Son i think the boy needs to tell you something."Son said a few choice words and asked him what he wanted.Wallace said Grandpa Patterson had just been shot and his daddy didn't believe him.Alfred said he better go see, there might be something to it , so Grandpa Son said well i guess I'll walk on over to see about it.Alfred replied "Get in the car and i'll drive you over there.Of course it was true!

Den Ree had lived with Grandpa Gavin and Ma "Torrie " Victoria Patterson for a while.Den had done some work for Loren Hutchison and hadn't been paid for it.He was drunk and mad when he went by Uncle Riley Crabtree's store.They saved their scraps for Grandpa to feed to his hogs ,so he'd went over there to get the scrap slop for the pigs.While he was there Den Ree came by with a shot gun in his hand and drunk.He was wondering if they knew where Den was cause he was gonna shoot him cause he hadn't paid him.Grandpa gavin said" well i'll pay you what he owes you ",cause that was his son-in-law.Den said "Well i'll just shoot you instead"!He shot Grandpa in the guts and they had fallen out of his body.Grandma come over there and was trying to stuff them back inside him.Poor grandpa died.
