His siblings - Belle, Rose & Earl Nelson all lived in an orphanage after the death of their parents.
Christian H. Nelson told his son, Wayne B. Nelson, he was 7 when he went into the orphanage, so that would have been in 1915 or 1916. It was called the 'Norwegian Lutheran Children's House.' The orphanage was a farm located in a northwest
suburb (then farm country) of Chicago, a ways out, perhaps, in
Des Plaines, IL. The name of the orphanage is in his bible. He left the orphanage
at age 16 (approximate.) to work on a farm in Wisconsin owned by Norwegians.
He learned some Norwegian there.
