I've raised this question before, but the solutions offered don't work for me. This profile has two sets of parents. When trying to resolve this, I select the proper set, and receive the message that my selection "would split the tree" and cannot be completed. Someone said earlier to go into the profile and delete the erroneous relationship, but the parental relationships do not appear in the profile, only the spouse relationships and the message: This person has multiple sets of parents. Click the conflict icon ( ) in the tree to resolve the duplicates. How can this be fixed then?
Hi Marty,
True the classical method given us by GENI to resolve duplicates doesn't solve all the multiple parents problems and may even be dangerous sometimes because the multiple parents may have the same names.
However there is strange exception I noticed a sort of non problem.
Check the tree view before hand. If the same parents are simply shown as 3X (same parents in 3 different places on the tree) it's okay. GENI displays 3 identical parents in the reconciliation duplicate tool. Select any one of the 3 parent identical parentsdisplayed works around this quirk.
Otherwise best use the tree edit relationship view.
It works "almost all the time" .
All the parental relationships are displayed at the bottom of this view AT THE SAME TIME as the spousal ones but it takes ABOUT A MINUTE to display them all.
As long as the parents are clearly different, it works fine. One by one.
But ... again it may not be clear whos' who when the parents pairs have again identical names. (Don't laugh it happens more often then you think)
When that happens I cancel.
I search thenout the parents I 'm sure are the ones I'm looking to keep. I add in the First Name field a unique tag to both and then go back to the EDIT RELATIONSHIP view and where I can now see clearing who's who, andeliminate the others parental relationships.
Finally there is one case I haven't been able to resolve. Duplicate parents whose profiles are locked. They appear clearly in the Geni duplication tool but are absent from the tree edit relationship view. But that's an entirely different case.
I tried to be clear but it's difficult.
Good Luck !
Hi Marty & Paul
The first thing you do is demerge all pending merges. That can fix things.
Because unless the merges have been completed, the multiple set of parents will not be listed in the relationship section of the edit profile.
Another trick that surprising work last night is, for locked profiles, to go to those profiles and try to merge them (via list). That will only work if the profiles have been to set for global access. If the profile is completed locked down, the only resort is to contact the manager and ask them to change the status to decreased.
