Grandmom,
Loved to play the piano. "Clair De Lune" was granddads favorite. She would smile serenely rocking back & Forth to the strains of that or His eye is on the Sparrow.

Did you ever hear the story about the mouse that would come out and listen to her play? I know there was more to it and always thought it would be great put together as a childrens book. :)

I had not heard that story, It is a better story than the 2 garden snakes that lived in the back of the upright piano that my aunt Esther Johnson had in the home in Seattle, until her husband moved her & the family to Bellingham. As dad moved the Piano, the snakes were seen slithering out from the pedal access wholes. While Aunt Esther, who stood just under 6 foot tall was standing on a chair. I had never known that she was afraid of anything. Rodents were known for living in organs & panos.

That is why the organ in the german church did not play music when the Silent Night was played for the first time on an old guitar.

Although I'm not sure I would appreciate a piano mouse (according to what I remember of the story Grandma Elma was enchanted with her little audience member who would come out to appreciate her music) you're right the snakes would be much less appreciated. I can now guess what eventually became of her little friend though :( Didn't know that about rodents- is there something specific about the pianos that attract them?
