@ Everyone . . . SWAMPED with 2543 Merge Requests, and climbing

Problem with this page?

Participants:

Let me first say that my primary ancestry work does not take place on GENI. Just the two past weeks, I have started getting collaboration requests from a few people (about 4-5) and I have accepted them; not really knowing what all it would involve. I figured it would be maybe discussing a relative here or there, share some information and that would be about it.

But now in a matter of about 6 days, I have been swamped with merge requests from only a multitude of different people through these four collaborators.

I am looking at one right now (Thomas Perkins II, 1547-1484 [that's right, died before he was born] my 10th cousin, 13 times removed) that has a parent conflict.

Mind you, I do NOT have this person in my family tree. Have no idea who this person is. Apparently I am related to him because I am a descendant of the Perkins family because my grandfather's mother was Cassie Perkins.

I want to let EVERYONE know, here and now that on GENI, I usually only list one level of family for each generation. My family tree on Ancestry.com, I usually list about three or 4 generations of family. But I would NEVER, for ANY reason, take the unnecessary and ridiculous amount of time that would be needed to trace each and every possible leg of a family tree for ten or so generations. Especially since most of my Kentucky families had between 10 & 15 children each. Could you imagine trying to go back 10 generations each on 10 different children and then 10 more on their 10 children, etc. etc. It would be ludicrous.

But what I do want to let everyone know, is that I am NOT going to sit here and send 2,543 individual merge requests to other people, who then may have to turn right around and then have to send them to some one else. It ain't gonna happen. My primary ancestry work is on Ancestry.com. I only play with GENI for the sake of my family, so that they will not disturb me.

Anyone wanting to discuss this further is welcome to correspond with me at cubbz56@hotmail.com.

Thank you,
Tony Myers
