The first time I met Fay, I asked Gov what I should call his grandmother. He said I should just call her Fay, that would be fine. I didn't entirely believe him, so I called her Mrs. Goleman. In the course of the evening she wound up telling me, among other things, that she lamented the fact that women no longer wore gloves when they left the house and that she took particular umbrage at supermarket clerks who said, "Have a nice day, Fay" after gleaning her first name from the check she wrote to pay for her groceries. "Who do they think they are? They don't know me!" I was SO glad I called her Mrs. Goleman, and am honored that I can now call her Grandma Fay.
