William Thomas Winters bought 100 acres from W. T. Roberts In what was then called Tally Ho, North Carolina. (Present day the area is in Stem, NC) The land is on Fate Washington Road about a mile down, on the left.

He sold 32 acres bact to W. T Roberts.

The 68 acres was "Displaced" by the US Government in 1942. This land was to be included in the building of Camp Butner. The family was paid $600 - $700 for this land. When Camp Bunter ceased to be after the wars, the land was offered back to the Winters family at the price the government had paid the family for it. Claude Winters purchased the land back from the government and built a home on it.
Claude Winters, Jr's family now lives in the home place. Pat Winters Garret and her family also live on part of the land.

The family grave yard was moved by the government to a community grave yard established for the displaced families. I believe it is on Tally Ho Road.(I will get specific directions and add later) Each family received a 40 by 40 plot in which to place their family graves. Pat Garrent requested an extra row to bury her daughter in the family plot. The Winters plot is near the center of the graveyard.

Molli T Harris Winters, William T Winters, Claude P Winters, Sr, Kate Winters, Rebecca Winters Scott, James Scott, Claude Winters, Jr, and several others are buried in the Winters grave plot.

Ruth H Wilson, Beth Hutchins, and Andrea H King visited the family plot with Pat Winters Garrett on April 24, 2010.

All information added about the Winters family on May 9, 2010 came from Pat Winters Garrett who has extensively researched the Winters family heritage.
