These profiles cannot be merged because a person cannot be their own ancestor.

I'm sure this must be caused by something obvious, but I'm just not seeing it. Anyone care to lend it some "fresh eyes"?

These two profiles are obviously the same:
Benet Wolterton
Benet Wolterton

Where is the gererational loop that is causing this error?

David I had a look at the first tree involved (see down below)
Not in Bennet's generation but in the next generation if you look at the row of children you'll see Gregory Wolterton who stuck in there in-between the Stanleys. Gregory might be the the same person as the 2 zombie G. Wolertons. His birth date is around the same as his mother. Maybe this explains why the merge can't be completed.

Looks like there were 2 generationa of Edward Strickland merged so its causing issues. I am trying to delete the wrong one after merging. Might be other wrong merges also.

Here's another clue:
Violet Shepard
My notes say that Violet's maiden name was Charnold, not Wolterton or Stanley. I believe Stanley and Wolterton were the family (last) names of her spouses.

David, Oops, just changed her parent to Thomas Wolterton. If you have good info feel free to change the profile info. Is everything else merging ok?

Hummm, I think there were some changes recently with Geni that are causing big issues with merging. I have run across many instances where the merging can't happen because of supposed merging of different generations. There is no way of telling what the issue is and the work on the tree comes to a halt. Better to go ahead and complete the merge then move people where they need to go. I was working on one tree with 85 + merges of a profile that couldn't be merged, unmerged the obvious wrong merges took a very long time and it still would let me complete the merges. Anyone know what happened recently to make this such an issue?
