The months of July and August have always brought into my focus or mindset the history, tradition and culture of my people. Before Independence, there was August 1, Emancipation day a holiday and the inevitable country fair and the denbigh show . Today some of the reflective moments have been lost in just trying to survive and make meaning out of the inconsistencies of leadership in the affairs of state and politics. The stories are being lost to silence and our children and grand children are at risk of not knowing their past. The schools cannot do it alone, for the cultures and subcultures need their own airing and only families can do that. That's probably why we need a reunion, not just to gather the clan but to help the clan understand themselves and the various roles they need to hold and/or play in the societies of which they are members.

Recently, on RJR, Alan and Paula Ann asked who or what was Brer Takooma? He was Anancy's sidekick but what else do we know about him. Granpa Dixie isnt here to tell Is there someone else to say?

Emancipation slavery, globalisation, Egypt and the first scientists and discoverers, freedom, full free, Bruckins let's think about them and others even as we go forward. What say you am I jus an old fogey giving way to sentimentality?
