Daughter (Etta) Marie (Eason) Webb told me her mother Dona aka Caledona, Caldonia, Donna, (Ring) Eason was half Cherokee. Niece (Donna) Willene (Murphy) Dawson also believes this to be true I think. Willene also believes (William (Bud) Eason was part Choktaw. How can we confirm or prove this? In those days it was not popular to be Native American or "Indian" so they probably did not register with their tribes or may not even have known about registering. by Stacey Hogarty focusgr8@gmail.com, granddaughter of Marie Webb 8-2-2010

Hi Stacey,

Luckily you're not the only one with the question about American Indian tribal roots, and there are some decent resources and learning tools on the internet to use in research.

I liked the suggestions on this page:

"... if you know your ancestor's tribe, there may be resources aimed specifically at descendants of that tribe. This would be the most useful for you, since different tribes were recorded on different rolls and censuses. You can use our list of Native American nations to see whether we have information on your tribe and whether there are any useful links in the 'Genealogy' section."
