According to family lore, LIBBY MIRIAM, at the age of 88, following the emigration of her children to America and the death of her husband, sailed for the United States.In 1884, as her ship approached New York harbor, she is said to have taken off the traditional hairpiece worn by married Jewish women, and tossed it to the sea, anticipating her new freedom in America.
