M G Balasubramania Iyer and MG Venkatasubramania Iyer

Started by Raghuraman Krishnamoorthy Sarma on Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Dear Sunil,
Are you sure MGB is related to us? I knew him very well, since 1977. His house is within shouting disatance from mine. I knew his elder brother MG Venkatasubramnian also. He lived only three houses away from MGB/s house. Further our domestic help worked in MGV's house till the death of MGv's wife.
MGB's son in law G.R.rishnamurthy is from Pudukkottai, same as myself. Oour families were very close. KIttu is very junior to me. His cousin Suryanarayanan is one year senior to me and we were very close friends. My mother, Suri's mother Pidhamma (he was known is school and college as Suri but as Rajamni in the house), KIttu's mother Rajam Maami and my mother were very close friends. I knew the entire family very well since I spent a lot of my childhood days in theeir house.
I knew that MGB;s fatherGanesha Iyer was a Surveyor in Pudukkottai though I had never met him. How is MGB related to us? If he is indeed related it is a little unusual. I do not know if you are aware of the sub-divisions in Brahmins apart from about Iyers and Iyengars. We are Vdamas and MGB belonged to the Brahadcharanam sub-sub caste. Even about fifty years ago it would have been unthinkable for Vadamas and Brahadcharanams to inter marry. Now I have a Black Muslim nephew and a Pentecostal pastor cousin. I would be interrested to konw the connection between MGB and your self ( and therefore myself). I hope you are able to place me. I am the first cousin of Arunachaleasa Sarma, grand son of FG and the Thirumnagalakkudi brothers were my gran mother's cousins.
