The tree will always do this for the grandparents (and above) of the focus of the tree. You can change your tree preferences to turn on the checkbox labeled "Direct Ancestors Only" (something of a misnomer; Ancestors and Descendants Only would be more accurate) or you can refocus the tree on whichever person you're interested in seeing next to his/her spouse.
