Birth: Aug. 30, 1934

California, USA
Death: Mar. 10, 2008
Iron County

Joseph Edward Callens, 73, passed away Monday March 10, 2008 as a result from a stroke. He was born August 30, 1934 in Los Angeles, California.

He was raised in Southern California and became an electrical contractor. After retiring as a contractor he bought a farm in Fallon, Nevada and began to raise hay. That is when he suffered his first stroke. Because of his determination he worked for several years to relearn to speak and walk with the aid of a wheeled walker. Joseph moved to Cedar City in 2003 with the desire to attend Southern Utah University and attended science and math classes. He was a familiar student across campus accompanied with his ADA companion dog Reba. Joseph had a great sense of humor, loved the outdoors, he accompanied his friend Bryan Bulloch to do chores on the farm and on the mountain., loved apple fritters (frisbies) at Lins with Boyd and enjoyed his many other friends in Cedar City.

He was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, and looked forward to serving a mission. Joe taught us a lot and we will miss his great smile, wave and humility. We would like to express a special thank you to all the staff at Kolob for their amazing care, to Dr. Smallwood and to Utah Hospice Specialists.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Cedar City Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 6:00-7:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary
