I recently obtained my father's birth record through Ancestry.com. He was born on Nove. 29th, 1893 (this makes him 2 years older than we thought.) He was born in Moletai, Vilnius. Parents names are listed as Yankel and Rokhlya. Rokhyla's father's name is listed as Izrael.
In addition I now have copies of his US draft application, the manifest from the Kroonland (the ship from Antwerp Belgium arrived in NY on July 1, 1914) and his petition for US citizenship which included his address at that time (2529 Mermaid Ave) his witnesses were Abroham Greenberg (grocer?) and William Ginsberg of 2521 Mermaid Ave. he renounced forever his allegiance to Nicholas II, the Emperor to all of Russia.
I regret that I didn't have the maturity to ask my father more about his life in Russia. He made sure that his family never wanted for anything, but didn't talk much about his life prior to coming to the US.
P.S. Professor Dantowitz's stories were helpful in my quest for information. Dates were off somewhat, but they gave me some clues.
