"Whether cutting corn, chopping wood or pitching hay, John was known as a hard worker. A story is told that on one winter day Author Daniel and John went to the Turley's to cut wood. As Author went to the barn to hitch a team to the wagon, John told him that by the time Author arrived at the woods he would have a load already cut. And, sure enough, he did. By the time Author returned a second time another load was ready. It was said that John cut ten loads that day."
