Why am I denied viewing of my ancesters?

Does anyone know why I can't click on some of my ancestors and view their profiles, when before I could? It says I don't have persmission to view them. Case in point is Frances Macon, who married Daniel Pegram. They are in my direct line as Great(++...)grandparents. It's alittle frustrating because they are direct line and not collateral. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

Could you copy and paste the urls to a couple of the profiles here? I searched and found more that one tree with them in them.

Hi Cathy,

Looks like you had some profiles in your direct line that were not marked "public," which were then merged with other profiles ALSO not marked public. The resulting merge created a private profile, and (if I understand things correctly), the permissions on a private profile can only have one manager.

Anyway, I was able to undo some of the merges and then enable the public view on some of the surrounding profiles. But it's best to make sure that all of your profiles are public before attempting to merge them.

He Brendan, I have a similar problem. I am denied access to http://www.geni.com/search/matches/6000000005229778205. I have sent a request to collaborate with my relative two weeks ago, but have yet to get a response. I discovered my thirteenth grandmother on my tree matches.
There is another one too, on the same page, http://www.geni.com/search/matches/6000000005027413295
Same scenario as above.

That makes sense.

You might need to make the next level down public as well to do those merges. Brothers and sisters of George Pegram

Thanks Geoffrey, that was good information. I will check what you said about public and private profiles. Since I'm fairly new at this, it's definitely a learning experience!

I get access denied to both of those also. What is the url to the page where you got those links?

In my previous message, I didn't address that to you. I think you may be the only one that can change that next gen to public.

That url shows me my tree matches :) Which tab are you looking at and what are you clicking on? You may need a curator to investigate.

Is there a workthrough for an ancestor profile that is set to private and the manager isn't active on Geni anymore? there are several that I've encountered that are managed by the same person. I sent requests and checked their profile for activity which was none recently.

We call that a ZOMBIE and the curators have tools that may help.


I just made Charles Lefevre "public" and "editable."


Go forth and merge now!

I believe that a curator can change it. Since the person was born over 300 years ago, there is no argument that there is a privacy concern. And, since they allowed they connected the profile into the big tree, they aren't saying that it's private. The manager has added 856 profiles into Geni though, so he probably didn't set it up and run.

He also has 14 collaborators, so one of them could fix it too.

I paid renewal to my geni pro account in January 2015. I've been knocked down to basic and my family tree is gone. I can't find a way to get any answer from geni. I bought this and am being denied access to my pro account. It looks like geni is just ripping off my money and giving me nothing!
