So as many of you know I have been helping my mom who has over 30 years of genealogy on Lejeunes and Guidry lines handwritten to redo all of her work since much of it was water damaged during one of the hurricanes. And yes, she insist on it being handwritten in her handwriting! LOL But oh what a treasured piece of history this will be for my grandchildren's children one day!

Anyway, I've been helping her by doing the research to verify bits of info that were just
guess-tures and speculations 30 years ago. Both she and I are sticklers for documented verifications...we LOVE finding old records or documents that put the facts in cold hard evidence like that....it's rather addictive to search for and unearth history like that....

So I have questions as I am nowhere the expert my mom is on all of this. I have come across a few tidbits from various people but they do not list their sources for verification. Some of these posts are on other sites and just come up with a google search others are jotted down hand notes that she has no remembrance of where she got it.....

I thought I'd throw the questions out and see if anyone here might have answers or suggestions.

Question 1: We have found two incidences where Pierre LeJeune (I) father is thought to have been a Claude or Claudin LeJeune from france who was a french composer. Anyone else come across this? If so, where are the documents? How did this come about?

Question 2: Pierre LeJeune (II) is said to have married unknown micmac who was an unknown daughter of Germain Doucet. We have Germain married to Marie Bougeois and this unknown daughter is listed as one of their children. However, in other places we have come across listings that show this unknown daughter as being conceived with an indian maiden. Question is if the indian maiden mother was before, during, or after the marriage to Marie Bougois or if this Marie was micmac or metis herself. WE have also ran across places that list the unknown Doucet daughter as "Emma"...

Question 3: We have been told by other family members who have delved into history that the LeJeunes may have come from a royal line of Capetian kings as their is documented history of a Lejeune king. Does anyone have proof that these are the same Lejeunes?

Thank you for putting up with my questions and I hope they are not baby stupid questions...LOL

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Christine (from Pointe Noir La)

Hi Christine. First, I'm a curator, and I don't work on these families. These are really good questions you're asking, but I think you might get more response if the heading of your discussion was more specific and maybe either had the family names in it or called out to people working on Cajun and French Canadian genealogy. I know that a couple of our curators work on French Canadian issues (for example Private User) , though I don't know of anyone working specifically on Cajun ones.

Also, have you tried doing a search on these ancestral names on Geni to find other people who also have them in their trees? If not, you might do that and then contact the tree managers and see if they are interested in merging and/or in sharing information.

Best wishes! --Pam

Joel Scott Cognevich

Joel is Cajun and working on the trees for Cajun and New Arcadie.

Private User

Is from Quebec and very knowledgeable about those lines.

Hoping that "tagging" their names will attract both to this discussion.

Do a search for Germain Doucet and you'll find several people with him and Marie Bourgeois in their tree: Jeff Gentes, Marianne Bowden, etc. One of the wonderful things about Geni is the ability to find people to collaborate with. Good luck!

For any definitive research on the Acadian lines, go to White. I don't have the time now but I am planning to go to the main library here to check what White has to say about the Doucet-Doucettes.

He is a researcher at University of NB in Moncton in Acadian history and genealogy.

Be careful with various sites on the web; they are full of errors and incorrect "assumptions".

Thank you all for your help! Great suggestions!

@Christine - i am away right now, but will look into your questions upon my return. I have also ask that we collaborate as I am certain that we share many of the same relatives. jOel

Joel that wold be wonderful thanks! Contact me when you get back.

An awesome resource for Quebec records is the Drouin collection on Ancestry.com. It has the actual church documents for 14 million events. It helps to read French, though I've learned to pick out names and dates without knowing the language. Another source for Quebec marriages is www.yourfolks.com.

Private and Private User had a lot of interest at one time in the Landry Lines whom populated much of Louisiana. Perhaps they know more about the LeJeunes. Although, I have done a lot of work in the Cajun and Creole lines, my favorite is the French-Canadians.
