Martin was born in Bavaria, almost in Switzerland. His mother was either unmarried, or a young widow, and brought him to the USA with her. Elisabeth almost immediately married Simon Schweiger, later anglecized to Swoager (some of the family goes by Swaoger), and never learned enough English to say that Martin was a Bloch, the rest were Swoagers. There have been rumors that the last name was either Black, Foster, or Frye, but the immigration manifest clearly shows Bloch.
